Nostalgia is Memory with the Pain Removed

There are a few friends that I have lost touch with and I regret that so much. I wrote this poem in 2003 while thinking of a few of them.

Friends and Lovers
I thought of you today
And smiled.
My heart remembered you
As we were,
Unbowed by time,
Unspoiled by tears.

But that’s not real
No matter what I want.
Life has performed its task
And so here we are
Fumbling awkwardly
Over memories.

You have grown
And become the person
I always knew you
Would be
I’m not sure what I am,
Other than scarred.

Much has passed
Between chance meetings
Yet one thing remains
I am still blessed

By you.
